Marine Autonomy Challenge (MAChallenge)

Marine Autonomy Challenge (MAChallenge)

Relaunching in 2021!

In light of the Covid-19 Restrictions, this year’s challenge has been revised. Based on the maturity of the solutions proposed and sharing of ideas, the challenge for next year will be adapted, to stretch the teams further and bring their solutions to life in an on-water competition at Calshot Outdoor Activities Centre. This year’s finalists will be offered automatic entry, with additional places up for grabs in Marine Autonomy Challenge 2021.

The on-water finals of the Marine Autonomy Challenge have been postponed to next year, but we held a Webinar in its place this year where two of the University teams gave an overview of their solutions. Two of the Industry Sponsors also gave short presentations on related topics. A recording of the Webinar is available to view here… Details of next year’s Marine Autonomy Challenge will be out soon.

Developing the UK’s Future Maritime Autonomy Technologists

This exciting challenge is open to teams of students studying at UK universities. The first phase involves a video submission and the finals take place in June next year. Each qualifying team is given a 2m catamaran and must design the autonomy to allow the platform to achieve a series of challenges – a cash prize of £2000 awaits the winning team. Our aim is to bring on the next generation of marine technologists and to encourage development and take-up of marine autonomous systems technologies in the UK.
