SMI Annual Conference 2020

Dinner - 25 February 2020
Conference - 26 February 2020

The Army and Navy Club
36-39 Pall Mall | St James' | London | SW1Y 5JN

This conference is the 14th in the series and follows on from the highly acclaimed events that have been held around the country in Newcastle, Glasgow, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Edinburgh, Bath, London, Liverpool, Southampton, Bristol, Hull, Dartmouth and, last year, again in Portsmouth. They are very well attended and attract prestigious speakers.

The conference title – Addressing the challenges & business opportunities in implementing Maritime 2050 – has been chosen to reflect the renewed focus of the government on the maritime industries and the business opportunities this brings.  Speakers from the highest echelons of the industry, the public services and the Royal Navy are being assembled to discuss and promote debate. The programme is based on two themes, each one addressed with five presentations from different speakers and followed by panel discussions orchestrated by the conference chairman, Rear Admiral Rob Stevens. The two themes of the programme – Looking at the challenges – and  – Creating the business opportunities from the Maritime 2050 Challenge - aim to reflect the various strands of work that are underway to herald the vision of Maritime 2050.

The Department for Transport has been leading for the government in implementing Maritime 2050 and we are delighted that the Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani MP, has agreed to open the conference by setting out the vision and the work which has been achieved in the first year of the Strategy. As well as a Keynote Address from Business and Industry Minister, Nadim Zahawi MP.

Integral to the event on the evening before the conference is a networking reception and dinner at the Army & Navy Club which not only acts as an icebreaker but also provides delegates with the opportunity to meet industry peers in convivial surroundings.
